Winter is here, and while hibernating through is very tempting, it's not the only option! Canberra is packed with fun adventures, and better yet many of them are free. So 'don your winter woolies and boots and head for one of these fun free activities in Canberra.
1. Visit a museum or gallery - A trip to Canberra isn't complete without doing the rounds of the museums and galleries, but when we live in Canberra we can forget how lucky we are to have such an impressive array of museums, galleries and memorials at our finger tips. Enjoy an afternoon wondering through a museum or gallery - it's fun, it's free and it's warm!

2. Warm up with a walk - It's tempting to stay inside when it's cold out, but as long as you're dressed for the weather it can actually be a lovely and warming outing. Warm up with a stroll through one of these iconic Canberra walks.
Botanical Gardens - gates open daily from 8:30am - 5pm.
Lake Burley Griffin - always open, and many sights to see around the 5km 'bridge to bridge' loop.
Mount Ainslie - park in the free carpark behind the War Memorial (Treloar Street) and walk up the 4.5km Kokoda trail, be aware that it is quite steep in sections of the walk.
3. Stroll through one of the many unique markets - Canberrans love markets, and what's not to love, meandering through a vibrant environment, meeting local farmers, designers, and makers, and picking up some goodies on the way.
Capital Region Farmers Markets - Every Saturday from 7:30 - 11:30am at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
Canberra City Walk Markets - Every Saturday from 10am - 4pm in Petrie Plaza, Civic.
Old Bus Depot Markets - Every Sunday from 10am - 4pm in Kingston.
Westside Sunday Markets - Every Sunday from 10am - 4pm at Westside shipping container village.
4. Visit a winery - Canberra is surrounded my many beautiful wineries, take a scenic drive out to Murrumbateman or Lake George, and try some of the Canberra regions best wines. Canberra District Wines is a great website filled with maps, information and events. Below are a few favourites:
Four Winds Vineyard - go for the wine tasting, stay for the delicious wood-fired pizza. Open weekends 10am - 5pm for wine tastings, and 12pm - 3pm for pizza.
Mount Majura Vineyard - Open Thursday to Monday 10am - 5pm for wine tastings, and can purchase lovely cheese and meat platters to enjoy with your tasting.
Clonakilla - Open daily 10am - 5pm.
