Weekend Itinerary for a Romantic Canberra Getaway

Canberra is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or staycation. We've put your weekend itinerary together, all you need to do now is book. Why not take advantage of our Valentine's Day special, in which all checkouts on Sunday, 14 February receive a late 12pm checkout and some lovely Canberra chocolates.

Friday

Check-in for One of a Kind Apartments is at 2pm, providing the perfect excuse to take Friday afternoon of work and head to Canberra. A secure keypad entry system allows you to arrive at your leisure, and come and go anytime day and night as you please.

Pick some produce from the greenhouse to complete your cheese platter, enjoy with a glass of local Canberra Wine (you can order this online when you book), and soak up that urban eco- serenity.

The array of dining venues in Canberra in continuously expanding, with an exciting new restaurant popping up every week or two. Not only does this provide an excuse to visit Canberra every couple of months, but it also means that competition is driving restaurant quality to reach new heights. It’s a very exciting time to visit, and live in, Canberra.

There are plenty of restaurants to suit any budget. You could take a 5 minute stroll into China Town and enjoy a $10-$15 bowl of noodle soup. Or head closer into the city to Temporada , a casual take on fine dining, with a contemporary setting and phenomenal food. Perhaps the best bit? They serve share plates, meaning you can try the whole menu if you’re so inclined!

If you’re after a very special experience, book a table at one of our new favourite restaurants, Pialligo Estate Farmhouse Restaurant and savour the fine dining experience of sumptuous offerings. A three-course menu is offered on Wednesday to Friday evenings for $85, as well as their extravagant six-course tasting menu for $110, or $175 paired with matching wine. Pialligo Estate have also just opened their Garden Pavilion which offers a more casual dining option.

Saturday

Visit the Capital Region Farmer’s Markets, the biggest farmer’s market in the country, in the morning for a breakfast of fresh pastries, coffee and seasonal fruits. Pick up some fresh vegetables and meat or fish for a deluxe home cooked meal in the evening. 

The Canberra Wine Region is thriving, with many wineries being recognised internationally. A wine tour or an afternoon at a vineyard is the perfect Spring or Summertime activity in Canberra. Create your own trip, or book a tour if you are both wanting to enjoy the wine. Spend the better half of the afternoon sampling regional wine and relaxing in the country vibes that the Canberra wine region offers.  

If you’re looking for a winery close by where you can soak up the sun in a lovely surrounds, enjoying some of the region’s best pinot gris and a cheese platter, Mount Majura Vineyard is for you! 

If a scenic drive is up your alley, head out to Murrambateman to one of the larger vineyards in the region, Shaw Vineyard Estate. Relax with a Riesling, and treat yourself to a meal at one of the region’s best eateries, Flint in the Vines.

Sample an array of delicious smoked meats at the award winning Poachers Pantry Smokehouse Café, while learning about the complexities of a Canberran Riesling from the Willy Trout Vineyard. The Poacher’s Pantry is also open for weekend breakfast and brunch if you feel like getting an early start.     

After a day exploring the Canberra wine trail, come home to your apartment and have some down time, relaxing in your apartment. Cook up a storm for dinner with the fresh, local ingredients you picked up in the morning. The apartments contain a full kitchen, so don’t be shy!

Sunday

Opt for a late checkout to get the most out of your day.

Wake up with the sun and go for a hike up one of the surrounding mountains. Mount Ainslie, Mount Majura and Black Mountain are all good options. After your morning adventure, enjoy a well-earned breakfast at one of the many breakfast spots in Braddon. Go for a walk down Lonsdale street and find a café that suits your taste buds. The Elk and Pea, Lonsdale Street Roasters and Eighty/Twenty Food are all great options, as well as Sweet Bones Café and Bakery for vegan fare.

Take a look at the shops on Lonsdale street, then head to one of the many galleries or museums Canberra has on offer, for a relaxing afternoon. Head back to the apartments to pack up your things, after your romantic Canberra getaway.
